For my Final Project, I did night. I did a few night shots for some other assignment, and it was awesome. I love the way it makes the photos look, most of these would be pretty boring during the day, but the darkness makes them interesting and mysterious. It's also great to be able to have a black background everywhere, the crap in the back of my photos was really starting to bug me, and having just the subject illuminated is nice. Pretty much all these photos are 15 sec. exposures, except for the streetlight and the chairs.
I started out by noticing things during the day, then coming to shoot them at night. I got some good pictures, but they could just be dark daytime shots, so I started just walking around as soon as it got dark with my night photo gear, (camera,tripod,lighter,flashlight) and finding things that looked unique and stood out specifically at night. As I started looking closer and closer, I started finding cooler, more interesting things, things you would normally pass over in a second when its dark out, but are amazing when you take the time to look at them. Another upside is you get to look like a total creeper, walking around with a tripod at 2 a.m. waving a lighter around and aiming your flashlight at stuff.
I loved doing the photos where I waved a lighter/flashlight around. They are incredibly fun and you get interesting results, good and bad. They let you be creative in a way ordinary day pictures can't, you can literally paint the light onto your frame. My three best of these are above, in 2 I am using the lighter and flashlight to illuminate my own face, and in the top one, I am "painting" on the floor of a tennis court.
In this Final set of pictures in digital photo, I wanted to show off all the stuff I learned in the last 1.5 terms, and that some of it actually stuck in my head and made me a better photographer, but at the same time I wanted to do something different and a bit more creative than regular assignments. This was a very different expirience of night for me, and my ultimate goal was to capture this through the lens and show it to other people.
